Develop more effective control strategies to reach a lactate metabolic shift with mammalian cells

The shift from glucose to lactate as a main energy source - the lactate metabolic shift - is a critical step during upstream operations when producing mammalian cells.

While this response is desirable because it leads to high yields, it does not occur spontaneously, nor is it well understood.

In this new paper, the MSAT team from our large-scale commercial mammalian production facility in Colorado presents some new findings to help achieve this important but complex transformation, including:

  • New steps to help drive and control this strategy.
  • How to troubleshoot common problems that lead to inconsistencies in metabolic shifts.
  • Strategies to produce higher protein yields during this critical step.
